Summer reading? How is it going?
I don't know about you and your family but we started to really slack on the reading in July. I am really trying to get the kids back in the swing of things this month. I came up with a couple ideas and I thought I would pass onto you.
I don't know about your kids but mine would rather be outside then wathing tv or playing video games. That doesn't mean, though, that they will sit and read a book unless I remind them. I decided I would take them down to our local Barnes and Noble and they would pick out two books each. It sounds funny cause now-adays, we just order everything on amazon. It was really good, though, cause it made them look around the store like when they were little and pick something out. I actually really enjoyed it too. I was seriously surpised that this store still has a store front though.

I also wanted to see if we could find some aps that would help get their little brains ready again for school. I came acrossed a popular site, I am sure you have heard of, Lumosity. It's like a digital gym for your brain. Hugely popular with it's list of online games that literally tease the cortex of the brain. It's suppose to enhance speed, memory, train of thought, attention, problem-solving skills and other funtions. Luminosity recommends you do challenging games 15 mins a day, three to four times a week. Sounds like alot but I though I would try... I signed us up on Sunday and I can't tell you how addicted I am. Jackson eventually got on board and is liking it. Free Lumosity memberships include access to three games daily or you can pay for the subscription that has more than 40 online gmaes, training tools and ways to monitor your progress. There are lots of aps on apple at the ap store that you can download too depending on your childs age and gender.
A couple that my family and I like are:
- Math Doodles
-Memory Games for yound kids
-Heckerty
-Word Search
-NeuroNation
- Lumosity.com
I am sure that they roll their eyes when I ask the to do a "game" but I don't really care. I feel like I'm a "good" mom when they do it and someday they will hopefully thank me for it. Ha, well, we will see about that one.
Hope this helps
