Smile...what a concept huh? I think it's sad it has become such a lost art. We just don't smile anymore. In this day and age with social media..we look at our phones more than having contact with people. We have become so disengaged with human contact. We can email them, text them. We can now decide to not have contact with people. We don't need to smile, we can just look down at our phones instead. It's that uncomfortableness that we feel. It's easier to just look like we are busy on our phones. We have forgotten how to smile.
How many of you have been in a elevator and when someone enters, you look down or you look at your phone? You don't look them in the eye and smile? You don't say "hello". Why is that? I find it so pathetic that this is what has happened to us. We have become a society of non-smilers.
My challenge to you this week is to catch yourself in a moment where you feel yourself checking out: maybe you’re stuck in traffic, maybe you're making your morning coffee or waiting in line somewhere — I challenge you to put down the phone and SMILE. Smile to yourself or smile at another person.
It’s incredible what lifting the corners of your mouth up does to our brain. It's incredible what smiling to others can do to your demenear, to their demenear. I challenge you to catch yourself and Smile. I hope it is so contagious, that you make it a daily habit.
Here are some of the things that make me smile. What are yours?
